The Census is Coming

In just a few months, the United States Census Bureau will ask all citizens to participate in the 2010 census. The census, which happens just once every 10 years, is a count of everyone living in our nation. The information that is collected is used to make many decisions including what community services to provide and how to distribute $400 billion in federal funds.

The U.S. Census Bureau must produce accurate, relevant information about the nation's economy and people, while ensuring that people's individual identities are kept confidential.

Even Safe at Home participants may receive census packets at their residence addresses. Remember: You are not required to provide your name on census materials, but it is important that you fill out the form as completely as possible and return it promptly.

To see sample census questionnaires or ask questions about privacy, go to www.census.gov or call (800) 923-8282.
